Good Bye New West, Hello Mission Skatepark

Hippie Mike was host to a farewell jam at the New Westminster skatepark. Located half an hour from Vancouver, this park has been around for a long time.

When it was first constructed, there were many opinions about the design and quality of the park. There are many problems with the park.

Coping that is buried on the flat top of the bowl.

Cracking concrete and the foundation underneath has fell away a number of times.

Even with these problems, skaters made the most of it. New West had its park and would skate it their way.

Then we go to one of the newest skateparks in BC. Mission skatepark held another Youth week skateboard contest that was also hosted by Hippie Mike.

This guy holds it down for skateboarding events in the Vancouver area.

Watch the video and see how each event unfolded.

This was a really hot day! All the water was drank that day.

Some really good skateboarding went down with riders from all over the Lower Mainland coming to to compete, ride, and hang out with everyone.

White Rock Skatepark 2014

The Vancouver Bowl series made a stop at the White Rock Skatepark. Usually this stop on the 20 year long Bowl Series has the smallest turn out.

This year was different. With some great carpooling, a lot of skaters turned out. They made the drive from Vancouver, Surrey, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver, and some came all the way from Squamish.

This bowl has a unique design. The flowing curves or Seylynn, Griffin, and Whistler bowl, are straigthened. This creates a fast capsule like bowl with mellow ditch at the top, two hips, a fun NOPING half pipe and a steep and deep bowl at the bottom.

Watch the video to see what this park is all about. Also check out Seb’s Air Runner at the end.

Whistler Bowl Series 2013

Crowning a King is tough in skateboarding. This year’s contest was even more difficult.

There are two rules that have been around since the beginning of The Bowl Series. No one can win more than once. To win King of the Bowl you must skate every stop of the series.

All year there were skaters that came to every contest and skated really well. But they had won before.

There were skaters that hadn’t won, but they didn’t skate every stop in the contest series.

But that is only if you are looking at the Advanced category. This year’s winner skated every contest, and placed top 3 at every bowl.

Watch the video to see who won.

Beef Under The Chief 2013

This year’s Beef Under The Chief contest was insane. Most of the usual suspects showed. Andy Anderson, Don Bushman, Eve Feaver, Hippie Mike, and Micheal James.

But this year there was some added skaters, James Clarke, Brad Muscat and Calum (from Scotland).

The energy was high and so was James Clarke as he flew the biggest airs of the day. Watch the video to see if he takes first place.

Sponsors of the Contest were: Vans Shoes, Stuntwood Skateshop and Sector 9

Flat Spot Longboard Skateshop Contest 2013

The Flat Spot Skateshop held a contest on their mini bowl. The bowl was tiny to say the least. But it is inside and dry in the Vancouver rain.

This was a very loose contest. Everyone jammed for a few minutes and then there was a final. The best came out and put down what they could on the mini bowl.

Chuck Bailey Skatepark Youth Week 2013

Vancouver’s Youth Week Celebration kicked off on May 3, 2013 at the Chuck Bailey Skatepark in Surrey, BC. At least it kicked off for the skateboarders.

Over this weekend there were 3 different skate contests or jams. It was a busy weekend.

Protest Skateboards Contest 2012

In late September 2012, Protest skateboards put on a backyard skateboard contest.

The first part was an obstacle contest on a Fridge. This was incredibly hard to skate. The few tricks that were landed were super hard to do. The winner was a feeble stall on the top of the fridge.

Then the Mini Ramp Jam started. The little ramp had an interesting bend in the middle. Don’t know what I mean, watch the video.

King Of The Bowls 2012

Whistler was host to the crowning of The King Of The Bowls.

At the last stop of the 18th Annual Bowl Series, the King was crowned. There was one winner of all three previous contests. Can Adam Hopkins go Four for Four? Could he be the second skater to ever win all of the contests in the Bowls series?

Seylynn, Griffin, White Rock, and Whistler. Four stops and Adam has already won three. Watch the video to find out if he takes it all.

No Music this episode. Both Strato and Hippie Mike did such a good job on the mic, we wanted to share the experience with you.
